| Hi all, I'm new to the forum and hoping to gain some feedback on a car I recently bought. I just bought a 1996 300zx twin-turbo with an automatic engine. I got a great deal because I believe the turbos are leaking (not really sure). Seeing that it has 82,xxx miles I also believe the timing belt needs to be replaced. The previous owner took the car to several mechanics who told him it was either this or that, he'd have the work done, and the problems still persist. Symptoms: -Black smoke out of exhaust -when starting from cold, engine feels as though it's gasping for air (coughing) -when driving and coming to a stop, sometimes engine will shut down. I either can restart the car, or when I see the emergency lights come on, I step on the accelerator, and the engine turns back on -on the freeway, struggles once it's at 2500 rpm (At intervals of 40, 50, and 60) -Turbo gauge never goes past 0psi - barely reaches it at times. Update - Took it on the 101 North From Hollywood to The VAlley (in Los Angeles). Had trouble getting past 35mph on the uphill. Black smoke kept pumping out of exhaust when trying to accelerate and shift to next gear. A couple of mechanics are telling me to sell before I invest any money into repairing. I'm stubborn - I don't want to listen to the naysayers. This car is awesome and will be amazing once it's fixed. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
